AONL - ACNL Agreement Factsheet

Member Fact Sheet

This summary highlights what the chapter agreement means for ACNL members—what stays the same, what ACNL commits to, and what support AONL

What stays the same (ACNL independence)

  • ACNL remains a separate, independent nonprofit organization.
  • ACNL continues to control its own governance, finances, legal compliance, and day-to-day operations.
  • The agreement does not create a partnership, agency, or legal representation relationship.

What ACNL commits to (to keep chapter status)

To remain an official AONL chapter, ACNL agrees to:

  • Meet AONL’s ongoing eligibility requirements and provide documentation when requested.
  • Respond to compliance requests within 15 days.
  • Notify AONL promptly of leadership/governance changes.
  • All ACNL Officers must be members of AONL

What AONL provides ACNL (member value)

  • Chapter leader connection: in-person/virtual leader meetings plus networking with other chapters.
  • Education & resources: notifications about programs, tools, and leadership resources.
  • Advocacy updates and member resources.
  • Recognition: listing as an official chapter and limited use of the AONL name/logo; ACNL may describe itself as “an independent chapter of AONL.”
  • Membership support: annual member mailing lists (subject to privacy laws).
  • Speaker support: one AONL Board representative speaker annually for an ACNL event (AONL funds travel/lodging); requires 3 months advance notice.

ACNL ongoing responsibilities

  • Promote key AONL initiatives and opportunities (e.g., Advocacy Day, board nominations, resources/offerings).
  • Maintain communication: designate a primary AONL contact and provide annual officer/leadership updates.
  • Submit annual reports (activity summary, leadership roster, and financial summary/statement).
  • Maintain professional conduct and avoid activities that could harm AONL’s reputation.

 Branding guardrails (AONL name/logo)

  • Allowed: Use AONL logos/marks only within approved guidelines and only for approved chapter activities. All AONL tags on social media must be approved by AONL.
  • Not allowed: Alter AONL logos; imply legal affiliation beyond chapter status; use AONL materials without permission; use AONL mailing lists for third‑party promotion or resale.

Exclusivity (national affiliation)

  • ACNL may not become an affiliate/chapter of another national nursing membership organization without AONL approval.
  • Collaboration with outside organizations is still permitted.

Advocacy alignment (how positions are handled)

  • If there is disagreement on federal issues, ACNL and AONL will work in good faith to resolve it; if unresolved, ACNL may not publicly oppose AONL’s position.
  • On state issues, each organization may maintain separate positions.
  • AONL branding cannot be used in opposition to AONL positions.

Term & termination

  • Either organization may terminate with 90 days written notice.
  • Immediate/accelerated termination may occur if eligibility requirements are not met, a material breach occurs, or branding is misused.
  • If terminated, ACNL must stop using AONL branding, remove references to AONL, and provide a final membership roster to AONL.

Fees & legal notes

  • ACNL pays annual chapter fees set by AONL (based on chapter size; may increase annually).
  • Both organizations remain legally independent.
