My Story

I was first introduced to ACNL through its Foundations for Leadership Excellence in November of 2015. It had been 2 months since I entered into a new role as a Nurse Manager and 3 years since entering a managerial role in nursing. When I arrived at the conference, I was skeptical of what I might be taught that I hadn’t already been taught in similar forums. However, over the course of the weeklong intensive, I was consistently surprised at how much I had yet to learn.

The conference afforded me the opportunity to connect with other nurse leaders, from my own hospital and throughout California. The content provided resources that I hadn’t realized existed and we collaborated on common challenges faced in our current health care environment. Working and learning together provided me with insight and perspective into the role we play as nurse leaders in affecting change and creating advancements in health care.  This was leadership translated into nursing practice and could be employed from bedside to the boardroom.

At the end of the week I confirmed my membership with ACNL, joined my local ACNL Chapter in San Diego, and had submitted my application to join the Members Experience Committee..

My Benefits

My greatest benefit has been renewal and rejuvenation. Being a part of the larger community of nurse leaders has re-framed my view of and re-confirmed my commitment to enhancing nurses’ contributions to the delivery of care. We have a unique perspective and it is our responsibility to encourage the heart of all nurses and to enable them to take action.

My Message

ACNL is about connecting. It is about establishing relationships with the diverse set of existing health care systems, establishing links with other leaders within the profession, bringing together the multitudes of health care disciplines, and re-connecting with what it means to be an RN.

ACNL is about collaborating. It’s about sharing our stories and experiences, learning from one another, and working together to build synergy. Ultimately, it’s about sharing life.

ACNL is about cultivating. It’s about reaping the knowledge and the efforts of nursing past and using them to build the framework of nursing future. It’s about growing new leaders and inspiring them to be the very best versions of themselves.
