         Guidelines for Chapters and Committees Using Different Communications Channels

           ACNL chapters and committees work incredibly hard to plan and host their meetings, events, and other initiatives, and it is the responsibility of the ACNL home office to help promote them.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           We do this through the following channels:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           Some of these channels can be further subdivided -- we're active on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram; print media can take the form of 8.5"x11" flyers and/or trifold brochures. Each of these has different needs and requirements.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The purpose of these guidelines is to help chapters and committees know what to provide the ACNL home office in order to promote their activities on these various channels.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Email Blasts
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           We generally do not include images in our email blasts. There are two main reasons for this.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Many of our members work in hospitals and use their work email for our communications. These organizations often have very aggressive firewalls and other security protocols which prevent images from loading correctly. In some cases, image-heavy emails will simply have the images blocked, and in other cases the entire email will be flagged as spam. We include the ACNL logo and occasionally use images as design elements, but we do not include important information in the images in case they are not able to load for any reason.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Some of our members have vision impairments and rely on screen readers and other accessibility tools to read our emails. These tools are not always able to handle images correctly, and putting important information, such as the time and location of an event, in an image prevents these members from being able to receive that information.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ol&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Please note that we are also unable to include attachments of any kind in our emails. For these reasons, we do not include flyers in our emails. If you send the ACNL office a flyer to promote your event, we can use it on our website and social media channels, but all of the information contained on it will be converted to plain text for email usage. If all you are requesting is an email blast, the easiest thing to do is to send the information and we can handle it from there.
          &#xD;

           Social Media
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Social media, on the other hand, is the perfect channel for images! There are still a few recommendations and requirements to follow:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
        
            Aspect Ratio
           &#xD;
      &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            : The aspect ratio of an image refers to its width and height -- e.g., a typical printed photograph is 6 inches wide by 4 inches tall, for an aspect ratio of 3:2. Facebook and LinkedIn are aspect ratio agnostic; most image sizes will display correctly on these platforms. However, Instagram requires a 4:5 ratio to display properly on a user's feed, so we defer to this ratio in our posts. This is very close to the same ratio as an 8.5x11" sheet of paper (the standard size for a flyer), but it isn't quite the same, and images at that ratio will get cut off, as in the example below:

           &#xD;

            ecause most of our social media posts will be viewed on a phone, we do not typically include QR codes in the images. QR codes are best used in print flyers so that the user can quickly scan the code instead of typing in a web address on their phone. If they are viewing a QR code on their phone, they would need a second phone to scan it, and if they're viewing it on a desktop computer, it is often easier to just provide a link for them to click, so we do this on Facebook and LinkedIn. Links are not allowed on Instagram except in the bio, so we refer users to that link, which leads to a landing page where we can list other links as needed.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
        
            Other Information
           &#xD;
      &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            : Again, because most of our social media posts are going to be viewed on a phone, we want to limit the amount of information in the images. The title, time, and location of an event are fine, and you can usually fit one speaker's headshot and name. But if there are, say, four speakers and an agenda, each individual element must be sized smaller, and they become very difficult to see on a small screen, as in the example below:

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In this example, the names and titles of the other speakers are barely readable, and the date, time, and location are too small to make out

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Print media is where we finally get to use the beloved 8.5x11" flyer and its attendant QR code. The format is easy to print, easy to read, and QR codes are extremely helpful here so that users don't have to type long web addresses into their phones. It is a great format for booths and tables at in-person events, as well as bulletin boards, front desks, and so on.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           From time to time we get requests for trifold brochures. Please note that these are formatted for a different size of paper, and because of the way they're folded, they need to be printed edge-to-edge, which home and office printers are not capable of. If you need a trifold brochure, there is an additional cost, as we need to go through a specialized printing company that we work with.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Another format we occasionally get requests for is the 8.5x11" brochure. While individual pages are easy to print, this is another format that needs to go through our printing company. Each page is actually 17"x11" folded in half and stapled in the middle. This also means that any brochure in this format needs to have a page count in multiples of four, as seen below:

           Our hearts are with all those affected by natural disasters. We know many of our members have been affected in the past or are being affected now. That is why we have set up the Nurse Support and Emergency fund to assist our colleagues who have suffered devastating losses.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           We are profoundly grateful for the nurses, healthcare professionals, and other first responders who continue to serve their communities with unwavering compassion and strength, even as many of you face personal challenges. Your dedication is a testament to the resilience and courage that defines our profession.

           Starting March 2025, ACNL and its chapters began using a dynamic system for maintaining board directories. This approach was meant to alleviate the team and staff from manually updating the website when board roles changed. Content in the board directories is sorted by role authority and divided into three groups: Executive, Chapter and Regional/Academia. This methods accommodates that requirement.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Principles of the Directory Display Approach via Membership Works
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Membership works allows categorization of member records using folders and labels. These folders and labels are utilized in displaying the information in the required way.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Thus, board members are identified as individuals whose member record has been copied to the ACNL Boards folder, with the selected board label(s) of either "Board - Executive, - Chapter, - Regional, - Academia. A region label (Region - North, Central, South, San Diego) is important for Regional Board Members. A chapter label (e.g. Chapter - Greater San Francisco) should be chose so that they appear on the correct chapter page for chapter directories. These selections are made in Membership Works:

           Once the folder and labels have been properly selected for board members, you must choose what titles display for them and in what order. There are titles and sort orders for executive and chapter boards as well as regional and academic boards. Do this by selecting the options from dropdowns in the users profile.
          &#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

           Of course, to remove a person from being displayed in the board directory, removing them from the ACNL Boards folder is fastest. Remember to make sure that record is just a copy and not their only membership record before removal. Otherwise, you will be deleting a member completely from Membership Works. You will also what to reset the title display values on the user's profile along with deselecting any labels that no longer apply.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

           This process of simply putting a member in a folder and selecting a few labels is easier that going to each individual website to upload images, reproduce profile information and format photos and text for a page. You only need to work in Membership Works.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           So, remember to follow these steps to have a board member display automatically in a proper directory:

           b - Select their appropriate role labels (Board - Chapter, Board - Executive, Board - Regional, Board - Academia)

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           c - Copy their record to the ACNL Boards Membership Works folder if they are not there

           With this in mind, we strive to be inclusive with our brand voice. Word choice should be simple and easy to understand for all audiences. Members of the public may not know certain jargon terms or acronyms that are common in healthcare settings, and even our nursing audiences may use these terms differently depending on the setting. It is important to use colloquial language in our communications and to spell out acronyms on their first usage.

           We have been in the mentoring business, in partnership with MentorLead, for over a decade. Through our CNO Mentorship and Foundations Mentorship Programs, we have supported our nurse colleagues in developing and enhancing their leadership skills to make a stronger impact in the nursing profession.

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Our new Mentorship and Networking Community will expand on the work already in place by opening the doors of mentorship to every nurse, in all specialties, and by providing a safe place to network with our nursing colleagues and gain additional knowledge from our shared experiences.

           The primary purpose of the ACNL Nursing Research &amp;amp; EBP Committee is to support, encourage, and facilitate California nurse leader participation in research and evidence-based leadership activities. The Nursing Research &amp;amp; EBP Committee functions under the ACNL strategic focus to prepare nurses to transform self, others and systems.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           Research Development 
          &#xD;

           – Contributes to new knowledge by participating in and/or providing consultation in the design, implementation, analysis, and publication of nursing leadership research that aligns with and supports the mission and goals of ACNL.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Research Utilization 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;

           – Supports efforts to identify and integrate research findings that are sufficient and appropriate to apply to nursing leadership development/practice and professional organization success 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Research Education 
          &#xD;

            manages financial resources in healthcare, or
           &#xD;

            manages and directs appropriate allocation and utilization of human resources in healthcare, or
           &#xD;

            provides education and/or consultation to healthcare providers or consumers of healthcare, or

            provides healthcare in an advanced and/or independent practice role, or

            designs, conducts or evaluates research in healthcare, or

            publishes, edits or authors for a healthcare publication, or

            provides leadership in regulatory and other nursing and healthcare organizations, or

            is past president of the corporation regardless of current work position.

Statements may include examples of volunteer or community involvement, certifications, or other examples of excellence.

           ACNL provides scholarships to support graduating student nurses in completing their pre-licensure requirements. Scholarships are awarded to student nurses who have graduated from an accredited program and are in the process of applying for the NCLEX exam.

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Selection is determined through a committee process and is based upon the applicant meeting eligibility criteria, completion of the application documents, and available funds.
          &#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

            The Nurses’ Float Scholarship Fund, administered by ACNL, was created from the funds remaining after the Nurses’ Float appeared in the 2013 Rose Parade. This academic scholarship supports registered nurses pursuing either an ADN to BSN or BSN to MSN degree. New this year we are offering a scholarship for students in an ADN program.

           The Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL) created Circles of Giving (COG) to assist existing and emerging nurse leaders to further their education through scholarship support for advanced degrees and certifications.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Nursing is a noble and rewarding profession, but the cost of education can be overwhelming. By supporting our scholarship fund, you are investing in the future of healthcare and ensuring that dedicated and capable individuals have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and contribute to quality health care.
